Dear Librarian,

You face a challenge.

You have to plan a Summer Reading Program that pleases the children, their parents, your library board and your community. You have to meet all of their expectations while struggling with a very limited budget.

My name is Chris Egelston. I’m a full-time professional magician, motivational speaker and author. I specialize in working with librarians in bringing my entertaining and educational shows on reading to their libraries at a price they can afford.

I want to introduce you to the all-new 2015 Shows that promote the fun and importance of reading and gets you praise from parents, children, your library board and your community:

Reading Is The Rhythm of Success! Just like the repetitive theme in any song, READING is one of the key things that ALL successful people do.  They read to learn new information, to become great at what they do, to exercise their brains and just for fun.  You must do the same!
Heroes Of Magic! If you want to be good at something, read about people who are already great at it!  During this show, you’ll hear about some of my magic “heroes” and what I learned about them.  And how I use some of their SECRETS!
Reading Is Magic-30.0! That’s right!  For over 30 years, I’ve been encouraging children and families to read with my Reading Is Magic Show.  Enjoy the 2015 version of the show which is perfect for any program that promotes reading!

What Are The Reading Is Magic Shows?

The Reading Is Magic Shows are all-new versions of programs that I’ve been presenting in libraries since 1984. With 3 different versions, they fit the most popular themes for 2015 plus they are all about promoting the fun and importance of reading.

All of the shows help attract children to your library, encourage them to read, and teach them the importance of becoming life-long readers. Librarians and parents like the programs because they help to raise children’s self-esteem, feelings of self-worth and their understanding of what it takes to be successful in life.

The children love the shows because they include Fun-Filled Magic, Hilarious Comedy, and Audience Participation, which they really love! Those tools are used to get the children’s attention, open their minds, and get them to remember the messages taught in the show.

7 Reasons To Bring A Program To Your Library!

  • It Encourages The Children In Your Summer Program To Read.– The routines in the program encourage the children to read in order to learn and have fun.
  • It Attracts Children To Your Summer Reading Program.– It’s unfortunate that too many children don’t get excited about going to the library to check out books like you and I did as youngsters. But the appeal of a magic show can get them to come to the library.
  • Parents Will Thank You For The Fun And Educational Program.– Parents are pleasantly surprised that my programs are not only fun but also encourage reading.
  • Amazing And Fun-Filled Magic.– The magic is amazing and fun. It includes funny props, silly stories, colorful items, crazy magic wands, surprises, plus fools the children and parents.
  • Your Reading Program Children Actively Participate Which They Love.– Most of the routines in the program involve the assistance of one or more children from the audience. They might wear funny costumes or hats, hold silly magic wands and do other fun activities as “stars” of the show. Even those who don’t get to help directly will participate from their seats by saying the magic words, with laughter, smiles and answers to questions.
  • Your Library And Your Programs Get Publicity.– You get a free promotional packet of posters, photos and press releases to help you promote the program to your community.
  • Flexible Staging Of The Show To Fit Your Facilities.– I understand that most libraries don’t have a lot of space for programs. I’m very flexible with staging and bring my own P.A.

Reading Is Magic Shows are motivational and fun. They inspire children and teach them the fun and importance of reading. But don’t just take my word about the value of my programs. Here are just a few of the enthusiastic endorsements from other librarians:

What Other Librarians Have To Say About The
Quality And Effectiveness Of The Reading Is Magic Shows

“Your ‘Reading Is Magic Show’ was terrific!! Everyone, young and old, really enjoyed it! Your use of the audience in your magic was a real hit! You were also very skilled at keeping the attention of a variety of ages! I was particularly pleased with the self-esteem building, library friendly, education-stressed program! You didn’t hit them over the head with the message, but it threaded through the entire presentation. Thank you again for such a wonderful program.”
Carolyn Witt, Librarian, Washington Public Library, Washington, MO

“Your program was marvelous! You kept everyone’s attention – even the very young ones. We’ve had lots of positive comments about the program – and lots of young people asking us how you did each trick – and checking out our magic books for ideas. As a librarian, I was especially pleased with the way you tied in reading and books with your magic. Thanks so much for a wonderful program and a wonderful way to end our summer – it was really magical!”
Marti Mosemiller, Children’s Librarian, Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood, IN

“One of the highlights of the show was the inclusion of numerous audience members and your interaction with them. The children and parents loved it. Another highlight for me was the way you included the importance of reading-especially that you first learned magic from a book. I found the illusions and tricks appropriate to the age of the audience and quite entertaining.”
Anne Bourner, Librarian, Sparta Public Library, Sparta, IL

“The children, parents and staff involved with the library’s Summer Reading Program completely enjoyed your presentation, ‘The Reading Is Magic Show’. Attendance for that week’s session was the greatest of all other weeks in July with over 200 participants … According to the laughter and exclamation of surprise heard throughout the building, your performance surely was a delight for all involved and we hope your pleasant smile and gracious attitude will join us for special programs in the future.”
Iris S. Garrott, Programming Manager, Paducah Public Library, Paducah, KY

“The looks on the children’s faces as they watched the show told the whole story. They really enjoyed ‘Reading Is Magic’. What a good way to get a very important message across.  My favorite thing about your show was the fact that you allowed every child to participate. Many came forward and helped you with the magic tricks, and that was great.
But by regularly asking questions of the group, you allowed everyone to be part of the show. That was really neat.”
Sherry Graves, Director, Workingmen’s Institute, New Harmony, IN

“Thank you for the wonderful performance. As always, you did a great job and the children thoroughly enjoyed each aspect of the program. Each year you add unique items to the show and although I have seen it a number of times, I am always as amazed as the ones seeing it for the first time. I hope that we can have you perform for us again next year, you seem to be the favorite among the Summer Reading kids. Thanks again!”
Sandy L. Linn, Youth Services Librarian, Calloway County Public Library, Murray, KY

“Thank you for the fine show you presented to our children and parents. I especially appreciated the way that you incorporated within your show the importance of reading to have a full life. Before you arrived, I was afraid the stage area was too small, but upon your arrival was relieved at the way you adapted to our situation. The children loved it, and want you to come again. They enjoyed participating in the magic tricks.”
Sue Bradford, Librarian, Roodhouse Public Library, Roodhouse, IL
